From the journals of Jon Ross:

On April 19th, 1998, I entered into a covenant relationship with the Lord.  The next year, my faith was put to the test.  My freshmen year of high school I began to physically die.  I experienced severe and unnatural symptoms that led to my admittance to the hospital, where it took medical experts 2 weeks to diagnose my “mystery illness”.  Throughout my hospital stay, I never lost faith or cursed God for the pain I was enduring-even when doctors began to expect the worst (painful death).  I had confidence He would answer the thousands of prayers being offered up on my behalf, and He did.  Just in the nick of time, the doctors diagnosed me with auto immune hepatitis in my liver- a random and unusual chronic illness.

I was the first person to be diagnosed with auto immune hepatitis in my home town, Kingsport, TN.  God has been good to me.  The second person to be diagnosed, died in the midst of recovery.  I am the centurion’s servant who was healed by Jesus.

I believe that God gave me life because He knows my heart and knows that the life in me is not mine- it is His.

Recovery was not short and easy.  I was homebound for a year and during my many free moments, I began to sketch.  My artistic talent was apparent from the beginning, and the amount of time I spent drawing multiplied.  I entered Christian art competitions and won first place every year.  I felt that I was still not using my talent to its full potential to honor God for the talent and the life He had given me.  To begin to fix that, I did something unusual.  I painted one of the sketches I had done of Jesus for a talent show at my home church.  I began painting at other events, and felt that I had found the purpose to which I had been called.
